Through the Looking Glass Saturday December 4, 2021 10am to 4pm
Follow us through the looking glass and down the rabbit hole into a WMODA Wonderland on Saturday, December 4. You’ll see weird and wonderful ceramic art inspired by Alice’s adventures underground, glass stilettos to make Alice swoon, and mannequins modeling wearable “glasskinis”.
At 10am, Michael Doulton, a direct descendant of the founder of the Royal Doulton Potteries in England, will be opening our new Alice in Wonderland exhibit - maybe he will reprise his role as the Mad Hatter for the occasion!
We will be unveiling the Mannequin Project featuring artists in the community who have been upcycling obsolete shop mannequins as works of art. Some of the artists are creating “shattered souls” with glass shards and mirror mosaics.
At noon, the mannequins will come to life thanks to Chelsea Rousso whose wearable “glasskinis” and corsets will be presented by live models in the spectacular setting of the museum’s Chihuly exhibition.
In the afternoon, Wynwood glass artist, Rob Stern, will be improvising on musical instruments made of glass with keyboard responses from Dave Rosenthal, a multi-disciplinary artist who has mapped the sounds of glassmaking to create a musical score. You’ll be blown away by their glass duet shattering all illusions of music and art.
Even more wonderful – admission is FREE to WMODA on Saturday, December 4.
