BLK - The National Black Lesbian and Gay News Magazine. Founded in 1988 BLK sought ?first and foremost,? to be the monthly magazine that ?covered the African-American lesbian and gay communities in the United States.?
Through the exhibition, we will explore themes contained in the publication including political activism, feminism, lack of self-empowerment, and racial imbalance. The magazine brought forward many powerful voices including Pat Parker, Audre Lorde, Huey Newton, Barbara Smith, James Baldwin, and others. Additionally, each month BLK looked at how HIV and AIDS impacted women and the black gay male community.
Bring your own snacks and beverages and join us virtually online. Free to attend.
